It’s the first LET’S LOOK of 2020!!!
Erika and I really loved this link up last year and are so happy to bring it back this year with all new “let’s look at___” in your life.
This year, the topics are…
If you are a blogger and have never linked up with us before, PLEASE DO!! We would be so excited to have you join this little monthly link up party!! Since today is the first one of the year, I thought I’d remind you what we did last year…
In January, we looked at the coziest spots in our house
In February, we looked at our favorite reads
In March, we looked at the people in our family!
In April, we looked at our pantries!
In May, we looked at our favorite #OOTD
In June, we looked inside our suitcase
In July, we looked at a day in the life of us.
In August, we looked at shows to binge watch.
In September, we looked at our calendar.
In October, we looked at our favorite fall recipes.
In November, we looked at our entertaining ideas.
In December, we looked at our gift wrapping stations.
We’re kicking off 2020 with a little look at…our bedside tables!
This is mine 🙂 .
Anyone else sleep on the left side of the bed? Isn’t it funny how you have a side? I’m the lefty in this relationship. As you can see, sweet Poppy is too. She sleeps in her little bed often throughout the day and then always, always, always “puts herself to sleep” sometime around 9 no matter what we’re doing in the house. She also always wakes up with me at 4:10 every morning too. Frenchie is our late sleeper, but Poppy likes to rise and shine with Andrew and me. I keep her bed next to my bedside table and then also my yoga mat. I find that if I keep it there, I’ll use it more often. Please also note, lampshades are the bane of my existence. See the one in the mirror? Why is it crooked? I feel like I walk around and straighten lampshades at least 400 times a day. #urg
I used to keep books piled HIGH on my bedside table (and they would often spill onto the floor), but now that I exclusively use a Kindle, it’s much tidier up there. I do keep some of my favorite books stacked there (with my Kindle Paperwhite on top).
On one side of my bed, I have my diffuser. Andrew has one too on his side, and we use the same combination (Thieves and lavender) each night from YoungLiving. I’ve said this a billion times, but these are THE BEST diffusers!! They’re inexpensive, they have a light with about 15 different color options or you can turn the light off and keep things dark. I love it because it diffuses intermittently for about 12 hours!! I also keep Laneige lip stuff on my bedside table too. It says it’s to be used at night for super hydration, but I use it all throughout the day. Beside that is the remote for our Sleep Number bed. This is the best purchase Andrew and I have ever made. You can read my review on it from three years ago HERE.
I don’t always burn a candle in my room (because I love the diffuser smell), but when I do (when I’m home all day), I love burning vanilla scents. There is just a random vanilla candle in there from Bath and Body Works.
New year, new Paperwhite cover. I am still using my same Kindle, I just bought a new, fresh cover for 2020.
I like to keep our bedding neutral and then we always, always, always sleep with flannel sheets. This winter, we’re using these from Pottery Barn.
Inside the top drawer you will find a bunch of random books, fake glasses, an old Kindle cover and what appears to be a pillowcase. I should probably take 10 minutes and sort that drawer out, right?! 😉
Inside the second drawer, a few sweaters and yoga accessories (the third drawer also has some sweaters).
So, that’s a look at my bedside table. A good book and lip stuff is a must for me! What’s a bedside must for you??? I’d love to know!!
That’s it for our first edition of Let’s Look 2020! Next month, we’re looking at our winter wardrobes! xo
Joanne says
The top drawer of my bedside table holds all my hand lotions and lip balms as well as several books and my booklight. I sleep on the left too but that was a strategic move on my part when we got married. I knew the kids would wake whomever slept closest to the door (once we had said kids) and somehow I thought that meant I’d get more sleep– it didn’t work out that way but… that had been my thought behind it. I still feel safer sleeping away from the door though. LOL
Mix and Match Mama says
You’re so brilliant. 😉
Dana says
Girl, those sheets are adorable!!! I was so relieved when I saw that all they had were pillowcases left. Ha!! Love these little glimpses into your life. 🙂
Mary says
Wow!! 2020 off with a bang! I love “seeing” into other people’s lives. My bedstand is boring, just water, always water.
Have a great day.
Sheaffer Sims says
I have the same lip mask on my bedside table, and I too dab a little on all day long. We’ve come a long way from Vaseline! 🙂
CJ says
Please dont straighten out that drawer just yet. You let me know I’m not alone! xoxo
Charmaine Ng | Architecture & Lifestyle Blog says
I love that you have so many books right next to you at all times! I should keep my favourite reads at my bedside table too – perhaps it’ll get me into reading more? ❤️✨

Shannon says
Along other things, I must have my Yeti filled with water, lotion, diffuser, and my new must is a back scratcher that Santa brought me for those hard to reach spots on your back. ?
Mix and Match Mama says
Now, I need a back scratcher too!!
Casey says
Hi Shay! What do you use for an alarm to get you up in the morning? Do you use your phone? I use my phone as my alarm so I have my charging pad on my bedside table, but I would love to get away from that so the first thing I reach for in the morning isn’t my phone.
Mix and Match Mama says
My phone!! Andrew uses an old fashioned alarm, but I prefer just to set my phone alarm.
Jennifer Gould says
Thanks for sharing Shea! My holistic dr challenged me to sleep with my phone outside the room and on airplane mode. Your body is restoring and healing while you sleep, so it gives your body a break since your phone is constantly emitting energy. I still wake to my bedtime alarm on my phone. It works on airplane mode. ✈️ I don’t know that I can physically tell a difference, but it makes me feel better to be able to distance myself from the phone and give my body a refuel while sleeping. Try it and see what you think!
Laci says
I sleep on the right side of the bed and my nightstand is a cluster! I need to clean it up stat after reading this, also hate lamp shades. I fix them every time I walk through my house. Grr
Narci says
I just love think link up. What a fun peek into your bedside table! Loved reading this! ❤️
Ashley says
How do you organize your chargers for your kindle, phone, apple watch…? These are all on my nightstand and its a mess. I need a better method.
Mix and Match Mama says
The cords are right there between my bed and the table…on the floor. Bahaha! It’s not a great system! I have all three (lamp, watch, phone) plugged in the socket right there and then just plug them in and set them on the table. Super sophisticated 😉 .
Becky Cowen says
I use these (https://amzn.to/35zUpX9) cord holders on my nightstand. I stick them to the back of the nightstand that way they don’t fall to the ground. 🙂
Michelle says
I recently redecorated my living room and when I went to replace the lamps I found you could buy lamps with USB connections so then I purchased all new lamps for my home and every one of them has a USB charger in the lamp. On some of the lamps I put a USB that has two outlets so they can charge 2 items. Now when I have overnight guests they can plug their phone and a tablet in the lamps in the bedrooms. Best thing I ever did.
Leiah says
Where do you keep your phone/watch chargers at? I keep mine on the bedside table but I hate how cluttered it gets!
Mix and Match Mama says
They’re on the floor there! Ha! That’s probably not the best place to keep them, right?! They’re on the floor between the bed and the dresser.
Angie says
You have the prettiest rugs in your home, where do you get them, in in need of a couple of new ones!
Mix and Match Mama says
They’re almost all from Pottery Barn!! 🙂 I love their rugs so much!
Julie says
This post made me so happy-really fun! I almost always keep something “alive” on my bed table…a single flower in a bud vase, a plant, etc. I have to admit right now I am between plants, so I better get on that sometime soon! Trader Joe’s has good flowers for this. Random question, but I am in love with the layered necklace you were wearing yesterday in your Instagram posts. It is SO very cute! If you don’t mind sharing where you bought it, I’d be so happy. Thanks and glad to have you back blogging again.
Mix and Match Mama says
Awe! Thank you, Julie!! Okay, I was wearing three (two Kendra Scott and one Madewell!).
Rachel Conner says
I am looking for a new diffuser! Can you link the one you have?
Mix and Match Mama says
That’s the one linked in my post! It’s my favorite!
Stephanie Anderson says
So this isn’t quite on your bedside table but what kind of yoga bag do you have? It looks pretty simple and not too big. I like it!
Mix and Match Mama says
From Athleta too!
Jen says
My bedside table is literally COVERED with books. It’s a serious book-avalanche risk… they’re on the floor in a pile next to it too. My husband’s table is totally bare and sparse.
Susy says
No clock? I have to know what time it is if I wake up in the middle of the night! :0)
Mix and Match Mama says
So does Andrew!!
KayLynn Stone says
I love that table itself!!! That is stunning!
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you! Once upon a time, it was in Kensington’s nursery. Haha!
Kelly Sites says
My nightstand is my command center 🙂 I have: Jade roller, cuticle oil, hand cream, glasses, books, devos, nail file, room spray, essential oils, lighter (to light my candle), all of my cords for my kindle, phone, etc.
Lindsay W. says
Do you have your candle hidden in a beautiful vase/candle holder? I love that it looks more like decor than just a plain candle. If so, can you please share where you got it from? Thanks
Mix and Match Mama says
I do! It’s very old!! I’m sorry! I have no clue where I got it…but it was a long time ago!
Erin says
My nightstand is a disaster! I typically have books, Kindle, diffuser and a lamp. But my kids pile on binkies, their books, and random kiddo junk! And the inside, looks like Monica’s closet from friends. Seriously.
Laura Fuller says
My top of my nightstand just got a makeover! Lamp, diffuser, little container with lip balms & foot cream, and a favorite card from years ago. The drawers contain jewelry, important papers, pouch of favorite pens, boxes of birthday cards, etc…
Lauren says
I would love to know where you get your amazing bedding? I seem to have a very hard time finding pretty bedding duvets and layer them correctly!
Mix and Match Mama says
All of that is from Pottery Barn!! xo
Laurie says
Mine looks similar, although in my top drawer I also keep a small notepad and a pen. I often think of things I need to do before (and during) falling asleep and if I can write them down right away to remember in the morning I won’t stress about forgetting. That being said I am a post-it fanatic – car dashboard, counters, you name it. Something even weirder is I have my kids teeth that have fallen out in my top drawer too LOL. Not sure why that’s my hiding spot and quite frankly I’m not sure why I have kept them (I cannot be the only one…hopefully). Longest comment ever but ending with I think my lamp shades move whenever we walk around the house or near them but it is maddening, I agree.
K. M. Roberson says
LOVE THIS! I could not believe it when I saw my book “The Hagen Family Secret” in your top drawer! That just made my month! Plus, you have inspired me to go home and organize my bedside table! Win-win!
Mix and Match Mama says
xoxoxo
Julie says
If I ever get into kindle reading (I have one, just not on bandwagon yet) my book pile may be less but not yet!
Sarah says
Also, the “about” page doesnt work on your mobile version. x
Mix and Match Mama says
Checking on both things for you, Sarah!! xx
Kelsey Taylor says
I have a small sound machine that is really helpful when I’m having trouble sleeping. I keep a few books, headphones, daily devotional book, and an eye mask in my nightstand drawer. Not too much!
Detroit Duchess says
I’m a lefty too! I keep a mini flashlight on my nightstand too. I have a little one stored on each level of the house for emergencies…come to think of it, I’ve always had a flashlight on or in my nightstand since I was little. Probably for all the illicit book reading I used to do when my parents thought I was sleeping, ha!
Dana says
I’m a left side of the bed girl too! My nightstand essentials are my lip balm, night time devotional, yeti with water and always always always a book! My top drawer looks the same inside…I’ve been saying I need to de clutter it for months but sadly I keep adding to the clutter! ?
Sandi Kellman says
You all are so cute shay!!! I’m a righty… only because my husband the protector always wants to be nearest the door!!! On my night stand is a huge glass of water which I drink every night. Coconut lip balm and currently a devotional by Lysa terkerurst called embrace which I read out loud to my sweet husband every night. I’ve recently made a change to no electronics in the bedroom so no more screens to keep me awake. The diffuser sounds like a great idea!!! Thanks for sharing. Ps our pets sleep in the other room… I’ve tried to share the space and I think they are all night owls so I gave up on that idea???!!!
Addison says
This was such a fun peek into your nightstand! Is it weird I don’t call it a bedside table? I also sleep on the left! I keep my alarm clock (which I only use for middle of the night time checking), my phone, Apple watch, devotional, current read, and lamp!
Julie J says
Shay do you have a source to order oils from? I do not want to sell oils or become President of the Oils. Haha
Mix and Match Mama says
I totally understand! Email me! mixandmatchmama@yahoo.com
rhonda hendrix says
how many drops of each oil do you put in the diffuser?
Mix and Match Mama says
About 5 drops of each one.
Kelly says
I love the sneak peek =) But one thing my nightstand always has that yours does not is CANDY! =) Never know when I might need a little sweet treat.
Mix and Match Mama says
I should really start keeping Sour Patch Kids there too. 😉
Ashley Hall says
Hi! How do you clean your diffuser?
Mix and Match Mama says
I just use hot water.
Sara says
All. I. Do. Is. Straighten. Lampshades. And like you, (and because of you ?) I have a ton of lamps in the house, so they keep me very busy! They are always crooked because you ever so slightly, and unknowingly, lift/bump them with your arm when you switch them on! I wish they’d make ones that didn’t move!!
Mix and Match Mama says
YES!!!!!!!!!!!! Hahahahaha!
Joy says
Love how neat your bedside table looks. Mine is a hot mess with books, Bible, lotion, water and a baby monitor. Where do you buy your essential oils? Does your friend have a website? Lastly, you wore a pretty green Pom Pom winter hat during your vacation last week, where did you buy it?
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s actually on today’s post (Thursday!). My friend is an essential oils rep. If you email me, I’d love to give you her contact info! She’s one of my sweet friends here in McKinney! mixandmatchmama@yahoo.com 🙂
Jacqueline S. says
I spy the Madame Chic books! They are my favorite too!
Mix and Match Mama says
Mine too!!!
Jennifer L Scott says
Dear Shay,
Thank you for featuring my Madame Chic books on your bedside table. What an honor! You have a beautiful blog.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Scott xx
Mix and Match Mama says
I have every single one of your books! Thank you so much for your beautiful work. xo
Leslie Susan Clingan says
Always love snooping around in other people’s homes!! So nice to be able to have a peek inside your night stand without having to sneak!! Darling sheets. My mom sent us a set of flannel sheets that are like new that she can no longer use now that she is in a smaller bed. Is it creepy to use someone else’s sheets, though? Is that kind of like wearing someone’s bathing suit or panties? Not sure about sheet protocol.
grace says
Love this! Mine has a lamp and stacks of books along with my glasses and phone at night.
I remember in an old blog post you talked about how you love cookbooks. Now that you have a Kindle, do you still buy cookbooks? Have you done a post on your favorite ones (besides your own, of course!)? I’d love to see that!! Best to you and your beautiful family in 2020!
Angela Ellingson says
Hi Shay! I’m noticing your bedside diffuser and the one linked are not the same ones. You can tell looking at the buttons, and the linked diffuser can only diffuse intermittently for up to 6 hours. Can you help me find yours? Sounds exactly like the one I want.
Mix and Match Mama says
So that is mine! I just looked in my Amazon orders and it’s the same one. I don’t know if it’s been updated? It says 2nd version online and i’m not sure if that means anything between the two. I don’t have my light on, so mine isn’t blue (like it’s pictured), but it says I’ve bought 8 of them…so, it’s mine! (Not all 8 for me, I’ve gifted them too!)
