‘Twas the day before Thanksgiving, and Andrew’s parents are in town!
Yesterday afternoon, they arrived for a few days of festive, holiday fun which began right away (we waste no time in having holiday fun around here!). We have another full day ahead of us, so I have a little post for you and then I’m off to enjoy my family.
This is a very random assortment of what’s been going on this week including our exact Thanksgiving Day menu. Grab that Venti Thanksgiving Blend with a pump of caramel brulee and settle in 🙂 . Tomorrow’s Thanksgiving, y’all!
We have been LIVING on our town square this week. The weather has spanned from gorgeous to downright cold, and we’ve been loving every minute of it. I think at this point, we have been there four out of five days with more to come this week. We took a family selfie and one child (I won’t mention said child’s name) refused not to make a face. I told said child that I would be placing a large graphic over said silly/dumb/teenage/stupid face and said child thought that was even funnier. Thus, this photo. I bet you can’t figure out which child it was? 😉
That kid might end up on the Naughty List, but this child…
…certainly will not. You guys, I’m not sure what the Lord has planned for her little life, but it will involve something creative. We were at The Yard the other night, and she can’t help but draw. It’s in her blood. Our little Lefty Lu. I wonder if there is a cute little lefty birth mama in China drawing too? It makes me smile to think about it.
On Monday, we visited our favorite coffee shop on the square…
…Collective Coffee to spend almost two hours with some of our favorite people including twin one year olds and a 5 week old baby. Mades, Ashby and I were in baby heaven!
After coffee and catching up…
…we had lunch on the patio at Spoons 🙂 .
While we were on the square…
…Andrew got this kid to stop and actually show his pretty smile for a photo after their orthodontist visit. There’s that handsome face I love so much! I’ve blogged about our new orthodontist this fall, but you guys, sometimes your mama heart just knows when it’s time to do something different and for this kiddo, getting a new ortho really changed his whole outlook on braces.
One more (shocking, I know) (like for real, SHOCKING, two Smith pics in one post!)…
…walking the dogs in the morning is just so much better over Thanksgiving break when I have this guy out there with me.
I miss Nantucket for so many reasons, but the #1 reason without a doubt is all of that time with my big kids that I don’t normally get.
A few cute finds from my closet this week…
…my new NORTH POLE SWEATSHIRT gives me all the happy vibes.
It was the perfect after church outfit for football watching and magazine reading. I bought mine in xs, and it fits over-sized. It’s VERY soft!
‘Tis the season for me to either be wearing something really comfy (like THIS SWEATSHIRT) or…
…something really sparkly like THIS JACKET 🙂 .
We met one of our favorite couples for dinner on Monday night, and THIS JACKET (an Amazon find!) gave me all the happy feels! You will be seeing it on repeat this holiday season. Just a basic bodysuit felt way more special with this jacket over it…similar to…
…my other AMAZON JACKET! This GREEN VELVET BLAZER will also be on repeat!
Yesterday, I wore my FLANNEL TOP (on sale!) with my JEANS (on sale!) and SORELS for my lunch date with Teen Boy 🙂 .
Many of you have asked what I’m making for Thanksgiving tomorrow, so I thought I’d share 🙂 .
When Andrew’s family comes for Thanksgiving, we all typically enjoy a non-traditional meal (like chili!), but this year, my kiddos wanted turkey, so we decided to make a small-ish traditional Thanksgiving dinner (since there are only 8 of us).
Here’s the menu:
- We ordered a turkey from our local butcher that we are picking up today fully smoked and ready to be heated and enjoyed tomorrow.
- I am making a version of THIS STUFFING but using only gluten-free cornbread to keep it g-free.
- I am making my Grandmother’s SWEET POTATO CASSEROLE.
- I am making my in-law’s famous FIVE BEAN CASSEROLE (my fave!!)
- I bought g-free rolls to put in the oven and warm
- For dessert, I’m making my PUMPKIN CHESS PIE and my PEANUT BUTTER BUTTERSCOTCH NO BAKE BARS (Andrew’s request)
Other things I’m making today/tomorrow:
- We had my MAPLE SAUSAGE BALLS this morning for breakfast and tomorrow morning, we’ll have my CIDER SAUSAGE BREAKFAST CASSEROLE.
- We, of course, are also having a FALL CHARCUTERIE BOARD tomorrow afternoon too along with our WILD TURKEY CRANBERRY COCKTAIL 🙂 .
My picture doesn’t do it justice. My view right this minute is gorgeous. Fall, you are my favorite.
I will be back tomorrow with my traditional BLACK FRIDAY finds, but you guys, have the most WONDERFUL Thanksgiving. I am so, so, so very thankful for each and every one of you. Truly, I am so thankful for this community.
Sending you so much love! xx

Have a great Thanksgiving! Question, when my in laws come from out of town they join Thanksgiving dinner my my parents and extended family. When you have Andrew’s parents in they just don’t join your parents, etc for Thanksgiving? Just curious. Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
We don’t do that on any of our sides of the family. This year (years not with my specific family) all of my extended family goes to see their in-laws (all of my cousins see their in-laws, my uncle goes to see his wife’s family, etc). That’s just always what we’ve done in our collective family. It keeps things simple because you (and the kiddos) can really pour into those individuals especially if you don’t see them as often.

Happy Thanksgiving, Shay! I’m curious as to what kind of watch Mades and Ashby wear? Enjoy your family time.
