On Monday morning, we woke up with a SIX YEAR OLD IN THE HOUSE! What? What? Miss Madeley James is officially a big kid 🙂 .
We had other plans (pre-Covid) for her birthday but decided to punt and do something super simple at home. After school, she invited three friends over and they played for an hour a half, had chicken nuggets and then Madeley declared it “the best birthday ever”. How often I’m reminded that it’s really the simple things in life that are the best.
Here’s a little peek…
It was a chilly start to our day, but we were all dressed up and ready to go outside because…
…we had yard art 🙂 . There is a company here (Collin County Lawn Posters) who you pay and during the night they set up the signs and then take them down the following night. Madeley was PUMPED!
Doesn’t she just look SIX?!?! The signs made our dumpster and porta potty look better out front 😉 .
The kiddos went to school, and I got ready for her little after school party. Madeley is VERY into Barbies right now and loves the Rock ‘n Royal movie, so…
…that was our theme. I bought each girl a Barbie to play with during the party. This year’s birthday sign was, of course, amazing! Thank you, Amy!!!!
A few balloons and festive plates for our Chick-fil-a (she wanted that instead of cake)…
…and we were ready to go!!
I made up four goodie bags (one for each guest and then one for Mades too) for everyone to take home. Suuuuuuuper simple…
Everyone got a Chelsea doll…
…a book, a coloring book, markers, kinetic sand and some fun headbands…
…and then Andrew blew up some balloons for them to play with…because no matter the age, balloons on the ground equals FUN for kids! TRUST. ME. 😉
After school, the girls came by for some nuggets and Barbie time. Ashby DID NOT want to “attend” this party…she wanted to “help” 😉 . She was an excellent helper!
What did I tell you about the balloons? Always an instant good time.
They played lots of “volleyball”, and then we went outside…
Awww, my other helper came home after school and joined in on the fun too!!
The weather was BEAUTIFUL!!!!! It was absolutely perfect outside, so Andrew and Smith joined us and hit balls in the batting cage while the girls all played on the play ground.
It was the best (and easiest!) kind of fun!
After Madeley’s friends went home, I made her birthday dinner (she requested my Cheesy Ranch Tacos!)…
…and then later that night, we sang Happy Birthday and had dessert. Well…she didn’t want dessert (she is not a sweets eater!), so she blew out the candle on Ashby’s cupcake instead. Haha! We had those Trader Joe’s Gluten-Free Cupcakes which are AMAZING!!!!! Even if you can eat gluten, you should try these!!
This is six.
Happy birthday, Madeley James!! We love you!!

Britt had SO MUCH FUN at Madeley’s party! She came home talking about playing volleyball with the balloons AND getting to play with the Barbies. Yes, yes, yes to simple can be so much better. The smiles on these girlies faces prove it!

Such a cute party! It looks like the girls had so much fun!

Agree simple is best! Did the girls choose their own Barbies? Curious that Madeley and Britt have the darker skinned ones and the other girls have the blonds. As a Korean adoptee myself, I Always wrestle with how to handle as I always wanted the blond dolls as I thought they were prettier.
Mix and Match Mama says
We try to keep a variety of dolls in all shapes, sizes and skin tones at our house. I thought it would be fun if the two blondes had the blondes and the two brunettes had the brunettes. Kids are so amazing because they just think all of them are perfect.

I feel like ‘going simple’ should be the theme for this year. All of our neighbors, us included, are making the kiddos birthday parties very simple with just a few friends. I am definitely ok with that!! Thanks for the idea on the balloons, I forget my little one loves playing with them just on the ground.

She is just THE cutest!!

How fun! Thanks for sharing the pictures!! : ) I still get up during the night and put balloons in my boys’ (ages 19 and 16) bedrooms and all over the house for them to wake up to on their birthdays. Covid hit last year so my oldest was home from college for his birthday in March. I, hopefully, will have to enlist the help on a couple of his college buddies to do it for me this year. Ha!
